Hi, I’m Liora

A recent graduate from the University of Georgia and a Health Extension Volunteer in Tanzania with the Peace Corps!

The day after my 22nd birthday, I left for Peace Corps staging in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Two days later, on September 1st, I left with my cohort for Dar es Salaam where I began my 27-month journey with the Peace Corps. This blog will help me stay connected with my family and friends while also sharing the work that I am doing! Through the Peace Corps, I hope to learn more about global health, international counterparts, and, ultimately, myself.

I worried a lot. Will the garden grow, will the rivers
flow in the right direction, will the earth turn
as it was taught, and if not how shall
I correct it?
Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven,
can I do better?
Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows
can do it and I am, well,
hopeless.
Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it,
am I going to get rheumatism,
lockjaw, dementia?
Finally, I saw that worrying had come to nothing.
And gave it up. And took my old body
and went out into the morning,
and sang.
